NEU Strike Action - Weds 1st February 2023

You may be aware from media coverage that the NEU (National Teaching Union) have declared strike action which will take place on four separate dates.

The first date is Wednesday 1st February 2023: All schools in England and Wales (other dates are Tuesday 28th February, Wednesday 15th March and Thursday 16th March)

The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government, and not because of any issues relating to Harehills Primary School. The right to strike is enshrined in law and we hope you will respect the choice of our staff who have taken that difficult decision… no one involved in any form of industrial action does so lightly.

I want to thank all members of the NEU for working with me and my senior leadership team to help plan for the strike day.

It is my duty as Headteacher to take all reasonable steps to keep the school open for as many pupils as possible. We have a large number of members of staff in the NEU so the school will be significantly affected by the proposed action.

I have undertaken a risk assessment and will be able to keep some classes open but will need to close others.

We are working closely with union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you if anything changes. Please be aware that there could be unavoidable last-minute changes to our plans.

I am sorry that you are having to make alternative arrangements on these dates and appreciate your understanding during the period that this national strike action is taking place.

School will be fully open on Thursday 2nd February.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office on 0113 2350 539.

If your child is at home on the strike day, please encourage them to read. There are lots of suggestions for activities your child can do to keep them active and busy on our Learning at home page which you will find under the  Families tab tab on this website.
