Into the Fabulous Green
As part of their writing, the children across school have had the opportunity to write their own creative poems within their classes. These have been inspired by the award- winning children’s author and performance poet - Joseph Coelho.
The Children in Year 5 have also had the opportunity take part in an exhibition called ‘Into the Fabulous Green’ which is a celebration of the natural beauty of the local community and the surrounding green areas.
Just before the half term holidays, a group of children were invited to a special poetry workshop which followed the official launch of the exhibition at the Compton Centre.
Here, the children were the stars! They performed their wonderful poems in front of guest speakers including the Chief Executive of Leeds City Council – Tony Riordan, Councillor Salma Arif, and Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods. The event was a special moment for our young, inspiring writers as they continue to celebrate the community, its natural beauty and to raise awareness of the impact of climate change.
Here are a few snaps and some examples of the fabulous poems that the children wrote:
Nature
Outside is a bush,
and it is certainly very lush
Outside is lots of room,
for beautiful flowers to bloom
Outside the waters glimmer,
whilst the rays of sunlight shimmer,
So go outside and feel,
the nature that is so really real!
Hafsa
Through my little ears
Crawling through the forests, huge footsteps walking
bing, bang, boom!
Butterflies finding their way for food
fluttering gracefully
Silence is reaching until sparrows search for their shelter
chirping in a melody
Raindrops fall, we all scurry for shelter
drip-drop, drip-drop!

Thoughts
Closing my eyes,
A peaceful mind,
Hearing the birds,
Feeling the air on my skin feels kind,
Outside the gate the traffic goes mad,
Littering gets mother nature sad,
The clashing sound, sounds so strange,
Making me think about climate change!
