Celebrating World Book Day
Following the huge success from last year's pyjama day to celebrate World Book Day we decided to repeat it for 2023. We asked children to come to school dressed in their pyjamas and bring their favourite bedtime book with them. They could also bring their teddy too if they wanted! If children didn't have their own books, they could use the class recommended reading books - or bring one of the free books bought using their WBD book token.
Hot Chocolate and Biscuits
All classes allowed an hour during the day on Thursday 2nd March to share the children's book choices and allow time for them to get some recommendations for books from their friends. We wanted to promote the benefits of reading as a pre-bed activity. Miss Pallas also got some hot chocolate and biscuits for teachers to share with the children during this hour. A real treat and I know all our children loved this.
Martin House Children's Hospice
We like to raise funds for charity and explain to our children how we can help others. As part of World Book Day, we asked children to bring a £1 donation to be given to Martin House which is a Children's hospice in Leeds. Recently a member of staff lost her sister, and she would have been 14 years old on the 5th of March. Martin House was a very special place for her and her family during the saddest of times and it felt right that we did some fundraising for such an amazing place. Staff also gave generously, and I am looking froward to finding out just how much we raised.
