End of Spring term and time to reflect

The final week of the Spring term has been another week crammed full of learning experiences giving us a great deal to celebrate when we take time to reflect on all we have achieved

Two teams from Year 5 went to Wigton Moor Primary School for the first round of this year's Leeds Debating competition. One of our teams won their debate and we hope that they will make it through to the finals.

On the same day Year 3, Darfield 2 class performed their class assembly to both Family assemblies and their parents. The focus was on explaining why Christians celebrate Easter. I was so impressed with the confident, independent way they acted out the Easter story. From Palm Sunday right through to Jesus rising from the dead on Easter Sunday, the children showed emotion and clear understanding of such a serious and important event for Christians right across the world. I think every one of us watching felt moved by the powerful assembly. I spoke in assembly about how wonderful it is to be in a school where we can learn about so many religions and customs. I also talked about the parallels between religions such as fasting in Lent and Ramadan and celebrations at the end like Easter day and Easter eggs and Eid-al-Fitr parties.

On Wednesday I was very proud when I attended the annual Arooj awards ceremony at Leeds Civic Hall because six of our children were the presenters. They were so confident, clear and professional in the way they executed this role. We also took two children who had been nominated as highly commended in the LKS2 Poetry and UKS2 category. These events are always very special.

?A week that ended with the Easter bunny delivering a chocolate egg for very child in school. A massive thank you to our friends at SHINE for their generosity.

Happy Easter to you all

We look forward to welcoming everyone back in school on Monday 17th April.
