What a wonderful sight it was to see classes of children in all the streets close to our school bathed in sunshine picking up litter. Even more rewarding was the smile on their faces and the sense of enjoyment because they were doing something for others and making a difference to the community they live in. As one of six Zone champions across Harehills we are keen to lead on making a difference within our zone and supporting to make a change so that the people who, live, work and visit Harehills make it a cleaner and tidier place. Thursday morning just spoke volumes about the power of Community spirit. Families and friends came out to chat and local residents were full of praise and gratitude (one class were even given a box of chocolates!)
It was so rewarding to see the skip in our school grounds filled to the brim by the end of the week. We certainly got the message out loud and clear using a range of media. I was joined by our Head Girl Anisah and our Head Boy Luqman and we broadcasted live on Radio Fever FM, whilst Mrs Mann and her children in Luxor 1 were filmed for Made in Leeds TV. Pictures and information are also on both the Keep Harehills Tidy Campaign Facebook page and Asian Fever FM Facebook page.
This is just the beginning of a two year compering so watch this space to see what happens in April, May...
