Queen Elizabeth 1, the ultimate role model
As I reflect on our first week of a new school term, I recognise how momentous it was for the country and the world. We are living through another unprecedented period of history. To witness the monarch welcome in a new prime minister two days before sadly dying at the age of 96 is a huge amount to process.
In school we have been and will continue to celebrate the life of a remarkable lady; someone who has been the epitome of British values. On Friday in assembly KS2 children showed their respect by observing a period of silence and shared images of the queen's life. The younger children had time to talk about the queen in their classrooms using the book created for her platinum jubilee which they were given. What a lovely memory for them to keep and treasure.
At Harehills Primary we always talk about being a family and the sense of belonging that is so important to each one of us. It is that the drives our motto of 'learn, laugh, love'. Over the past few days, we have been reminded of all the queen stood for and the fact that she was the centre of her family. We have all been inspired by her dedication to duty which she carried out in a calm, caring way and there have been many glimpses of her great sense of humour too. Somehow, I think she would approve of our motto.
On behalf of the HPS family I want to thank her for being the ultimate role model.
