Spring 1 in Nursery
This half term in Nursery our topic is Traditonal Tales. We are reading stories such as 'The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Jack and the Beanstalk. The children are becoming familiar with these stories and retelling them independently using the illustrations as prompts. We have also been incorporating these stories into our role-play and mark making. We will be starting our 'Shared Story' sessions in Nursery this week. This will be a chance for parents to attend our open mornings with their children on a Wednesday when you drop your child off, come into the classroom and listen to a story together. You can then choose a book from our Nursery Library cart to share at home the following week.
We have also launched 'Word Aware' in Nursery. This is a scheme to help young children develop and understand language. Each week we will have a 'word of the week' which will be displayed on our Parents Board. You can help your children at home by reinforcing the word, modelling it by using it in sentences and different contexts. E.g. "Daddy is walking behind us." To begin with we are going to be focusing on different positional language words as this links to our Maths learning. Please check the board every Monday to find out our new word of the week.
