Arooj (meaning "Rise") Celebration

What a magical event the Arooj Celebration event was last Thursday afternoon.
Arooj is a collaborative of schools all working together to raise aspirations, expectations and achievement of children from minority ethnic groups. This celebration was to announce the winners of the Arooj Creative Writing competition but also showcased the creative talents of children from different Arooj schools.

We took 19 talented singers to perform our "Power of One" song in the impressive Leeds Civic Hall building. Their performance was confident and emotive. The lyrics of the song were particularly apt for the event and many of the audience joined in with the beat. I couldn't have felt more proud as Head teacher to watch them and that was followed by Nadeem Tahir from Luxor 3 (Year 5) receiving a Highly commended award for his short story in the Upper Key Stage 2 Category. We were all very excited by his achievement and this was added to by Safa Sabegh from Sandhurst 3 (Year 6) winning the award as best poet in the Upper Key Stage 2 Poetry category.

The theme for both categories was "Going for Goals" and both children proved the high standards they have set themselves have brought rewards. Fantastic and well deserved!
