It has been an exciting start to the year in Darfield 1. This half term we have been learning all about Prehistoric man. We have been learning how they lived and found food. We explored how they made stone tools and even had a go at making our own. We also learned how life changed in the Bronze Age when people discovered how to make bronze and farm. As part of this we designed and made our own bronze jewellery out of clay.
In science we have been learning all about rocks. We have linked this learning to our theme by testing rocks to work out which rock would make the best tool.
We also made igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock out of chocolate to learn how they were made and what they were like.
In writing we have been reading an adventure story all about Ugg and Grugg. We have been describing characters and setting and have begun to plan and write out own exciting chapter as Ugg sets off to find more food. We have also spent time reading these stories and predicting what might happen next as well as learning how to make inferences about the characters’ feelings.
In maths we have been learning how to partition numbers as well as learning what place value is. We have used this knowledge to help us add and subtract more easily and used partitioning to double and halve numbers.
In PE we have been learning how to dance. We have been learning new dance moves and putting them together to create our very own dance routine.
In Computing we have been learning how to create a presentation in power point and how to make it look eye catching. We have learned how to change the font size and colour and how to change the background style of the presentation.
It has been a very exciting start to the year.
